Paris Fashion Week: Zimmermann’s Ode to Picnic

Hypnotic - the Fall 2025 show from the Australian brand Zimmermann at Paris Fashion week was an homage to Picnic at Hanging Rock. “I wanted to evoke the same spirit of exploration, curiosity, and mystery that Picnic at Hanging Rock offers, but with a fresh, contemporary twist that resonates with today,” the designer Nicky Zimmermann told Australian Vogue.

The references were subtle and unexpected - such as a dress featured hand-written notes and Valentines cards, a denim corset and a crinoline skirt, riding outfit details. Mrs Appleyard herself would have seen ‘venomous snakes’ - in the snakeskin bags, boots and printed sheer fabrics.

“The meeting of light and darkness is at the core of Picnic at Hanging Rock,” Nicky explains. “This duality is expressed through the evolution of the collection’s colours, textures, and silhouettes.”
